Final Fantasy-Sunday, July 15  CF
Intro to the Column-Thursday, June 07 CF

Final Fantasy| Sunday, July 15, 2001 7:41 PM. | ColdFire
Three days ago, I went and saw Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. I had been awaiting the release of the movie for about a year, and I couldn't wait to see it. I arrived 45 minutes early, and managed to get a ticket. But guess what, there were barely any people there, and the theater was only about halfway full. I guess this only attracted the gaming and art crowd, because I managed to overhear intelligent conversations instead of some guy trying to impress his girlfriend (no offense to you who do that on a regular basis). When the movie started, I couldn't believe my eyes. The animation was amazing, the colors were great, and the characters were seamless (in the sense of perfectly animated). The story unfolded with a very interesting beginning, with an explanation of the spirits which you learn about more later on. It was amazing how the plot started out. But later on the movie sacrificed plot in favor of action, dulling the movie mentally but blowing you away with the eyecandy. The CG graphics throughout the movie were great, the plot was sufficient (it's not like Square can fit a whole Final Fantasy game into a two hour block of action) and the overall effect it left on the viewers, including me, was a sense of astonoshment. As most of you have probably heard before, it really "blurred the line between computer (animation) and reality." It was definitely worth the 8 dollars for the ticket, and if I was staying in the states I would definetly go see it again...and again. This was My Two Cents, Kent Brockman...wait...Till next time, this has been ColdFire with the evening news. Thank you, and good night.

Introduction to The Column| Thursday, June 07, 2001 10:13 AM. | ColdFire

The column is a new addition to Tempest Tek. Although it is in the beginning stages, and we still only have a slight idea of what it will be, it has a great potential for the future. Until we get an editor, it will be NightHawk (maybe) and I that will be writing for it. This is basically going to be like the site newspaper, but with less restrictions than a conventional one. So good luck to the column and future editors, and may it prosper. I SALUTE YOU!! *sniff*
