Guidelines

To be eligible to become part of the Tempest Tek you must understand and obey the following rules:

  • General Guidelines

  • You will receive no payment or any other form of reward. You must be willing to work for Tempest Tek simply because, like us, you enjoy doing so (or you are amazingly bored and have nothing else to do). We do prefer the first though.

  • You must be an active online person. One who logs on daily (or almost daily) and can frequently put time aside for Tempest Tek. If you can only help us during vacation ,for example, we will most likely decline your application. There maybe an exception if your work is worth the wait periods and such.

  • If you are applying for:

  • Webmaster-You must either have Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or have a vast (emphasis on vast) knowledge of HTML. Java and other languages are a plus.

  • News Updater-You must either have Microsoft FrontPage 2000 or have a vast (emphasis on vast) knowledge of HTML. Java and other languages are a plus. Also, you must be ESPECIALLY active! This means you do everything you can so you are ready to update the news up to several times a day.

  • Graphics Designer-You must have examples (note the 's' in examples) of your work.

  • Communication Officer-You must have online contacts or able to make these contacts easily. You must also be active enough to be able to communicate with site affiliates and such.

  • Site Promoter-You must have contacts and be able to get links, search results, and other such paths to Tempest Tek. This is a great help and once this gets going, the position of Site Promoter will be one of high value.

  • Animation Producer-You must have a program for flash, java, or other animation-producing program or an extensive (emphasis on extensive) knowledge of the scripting language for these programs. The animations must be of good quality and must improve either the look of the site if it is for that purpose or it must be cool looking if it is for a signature, or something of the sort.

  • Tech Engineer-You must have an extensive knowledge of all the types of scripts used on this site or have a program that can check for errors, broken links, or other types of problems.

  • Extras

  • For all positions you must also have ICQ for ease of contact (download it here) and AOL instant messenger (not required, but a plus. Download at www.aol.com).

  • You MUST have a good attitude and a sense of humor. We here at Tempest Tek are doing this for our own enjoyment and we simply wont do with any pain in the buts. A quick smile is always a plus

IMPORTANT: The Form bellow has not yet been tested. If for some reason we do not reply to your application within a few days, please e-mail your information to us at: tempesttek@swirve.com. You can also contact us by AIM or ICQ (information under Staff section).

Webmaster
A webmaster is someone who constantly works on the site in every aspect available. This means doing the the normal work, such as adding new gaming sections or updating the home page. But that is only the main part, or about 80% of the job. The work that this position also includes is to do all the work that can be applied for. Although this may seem like a lot, it is not, because that is the kind of stuff you do when you just happen to make a contact, or remember to do it. So the position of webmaster is a pretty general job here at Tempest Tek. You have the tasks of all the positions, but do not have so much pressure on you to do a specific one.

News Updater
A News Updater is a highly active online person. They update news on the site when they are asked to or when they see some news that they deem important enough to post. This position is probably one of the easiest jobs, especially if you are online a lot, but there is a lot of pressure on the person to keep the news fresh for the populace. Although this job is also covered by the webmaster position, it is still an important one, and vital to the site.

Graphics Designer
A Graphic Designer is someone who is an avid, preferably a professional (or close), user of graphic design programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks, Paintshop Pro, etc. Also, this person should be partially active, or active enough to be able to receive commissions from the crew at Tempest Tek. This job is a pretty tough one, unless you are very efficient and proficient with these types of programs. This is only a job for the willing, and is not to be taken lightly. This is the one position in which a lot of pressure is put upon the person in this position. Although I would say that this position is a hard one, it is a very good ob to spread/advertise your work and spread your presence through the net, which is an added bonus.

Communication Officer
A Communication Officer is someone who has a vast network of contacts over the internet. This allows for that person to be involved in such things as knowing the times for certain meetings, or the plan for a certain time. Basically,

Site Promoter

Animation Producer

Tech Engineer
A tech engineer has a very behind-the-scenes job but is one of great value. They fix bugs, correct HTML errors, and generally keeps the site running the way it is supposed to. An extensive knowledge of HTML, Java, and other scripting languages are definitely a plus. If these skills aren't available, then a program that checks for problems will suffice. Overall, the tech engineer is what keeps Tempest Tek going.
